Brothers and sisters: As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one Body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.
Now the body is not a single part, but many.
Now you are Christ’s Body, and individually parts of it. Some people God has designated in the Church to be, first, Apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then, mighty deeds; then gifts of healing, assistance, administration, and varieties of tongues. Are all Apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work mighty deeds? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts.
What gifts do you have? Scripture tells us that we all have gifts and each gift we have is to build the body of Christ. The gifts the Lord gives to us are not meant to be kept to ourselves. The body cannot function in pieces, it needs all the parts that make up a body. It is the same with the Church. We cannot separate ourselves from the Body of Christ – the Church, anymore than we can separate our body and expect it to function. Use your gifts for the good of the Church and when you do, you honor the Lord for all the gifts that He has given to you. And, if you think you do not have a gift, just tell the Lord. He will show you how wrong you are!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gifts that you have given to me and the knowledge and ability to use them for you. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
We are his people: the sheep of his flock.
