Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
This one is hard! How often is it hard to love those who love you and here Jesus is telling us we have to not only love our enemies but pray for them also! He is asking us to step out of our comfort zone, to honpr Him in those you do not know. Because how often do we not know our enemies? We think we know them, but what we know is based on a common battle. How well do you know the person? How much do you think your opinion will change if you get to know them as well as someone you love? Jesus is telling us to do just that.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to pray for and love not only those who love me but those whom I should love. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
Praise the Lord, my soul! Alleluia!
