Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on your right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”
Jesus wants us to do more than is required of us. If we only do what it takes to survive or get along, we are just getting by. If we give more, go the extra mile, we are truly living. He asks us to give more than is asked so that we may show Him to the world. Are you just getting by or are you living?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I ask that you always help me to give more than is asked. When I am tired or sore, give me the strength to do your will. I want people to see you Lord, not me. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
The Lord has made known his salvation.
