The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?” Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
They still did not realize who Jesus was, but they saw that the Disciples acted differently with Jesus than they did. Jesus was trying to tell them who He was, but we know who He is and He is no longer physically with us. He should be in our hearts and in our minds, but all too often He is not. When we fast, we are reminded of Him and His sacrifice for us. How often do you fast?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to remember what your Son did for us. Too often today we forget, help us Lord to fast and remember His cross and take up our own. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
A heart contrite and humbled, O God, you will not spurn.
