Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. John tried to prevent him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and yet you are coming to me?”
Jesus said to him in reply, “Allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him. After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
John knew that Jesus needed to baptize him, but Jesus told him that he had to baptize Jesus first. Sometimes it seems God has things backwards when He asks us to do His will. But He has a plan, “to fulfill all righteousness” and just like John we do not know what it is. But we must allow it. What has God asked you to do that seemed out of order? Did you allow it and do it anyway? That is obedience to God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, there have been times when you led me to do something that I did not understand. But when I said yes I eventually came to see your plan. Thank you for caring more for me than I care for me. Your love and trust have brought me much joy and happiness and in Jesus’ holy name, I give you praise, Amen!
The Lord will bless his people with peace.
