Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
“The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”
What a convicting statement – …where your treasure is, there also will be your heart. What does that say about our consumerist society? Where are our hearts today when all we can do is buy the next bigger, better, best new thing on the market? What is the next biggest thing you need? Where does your heart lie, in your possessions or with God? You may have some decisions to make and your eternal life will depend on what you choose.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to remember that what I own is never as important as placing my heart in yours. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
The Lord has chosen Zion for his dwelling.
