Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers and sisters only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Jesus wants us to be different than non-believers. He wants us to stand out as loving the unlovable, praying for those who hurt us and recognizing that we are all loved by God. God treats us all the same but Jesus expects us to be better than the rest. How do you stand out? Are you different from the crowd or would no one know you are a Christian? How do you fit into what Jesus wants?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I be recognized as one who believes in you, one who follows you and one who loves others as you love us all. In Jesus’ holy name I ask all this, Amen.
Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
