Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. Thus we know this is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number. But you have the anointing that comes from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I write to you not because you do not know the truth but because you do, and because every lie is alien to the truth.

We know the truth, we know the difference between it and the lies of the world. Many have left Christ for the world where the rewards are fleeting and shallow. If you have been anointed by Christ, why would you leave Him? Why walk away from the truth? Evaluate your life, it is time to start fresh and walk in the light of Christ.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, as this year ends, help me to embrace your truth and walk in your light, always standing in your truth. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!

I am writing to you, children, because your sins have been forgiven for his name’s sake.

I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men, because you have conquered the Evil One.

I write to you, children, because you know the Father.

I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God remains in you, and you have conquered the Evil One.

Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world. Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever.

Your choice. Life or death. This is very clear, it is addressed to all of us and we need to heed what John says. Why would you choose to live any other way?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I choose to live with you. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!

12-29-2015 Gospel Lk 2:22-35

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.

Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:

“Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.”

The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Many people knew Jesus before He spoke or performed any miracles. They knew Him because they knew the Word of God. The same word that we have handed down to us, but we see Jesus revealed. So why do so many people have a problem believing and following Him now? His word has not changed, He has brought mercy and forgiveness into this world in a way never revealed before. What do you believe? Who do you believe? If not the Word of God, then what? There is no other truth.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing your word to me. May I always do as you teach and live as Jesus lived, with love and mercy. In His holy name, Amen.

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!

When the magi had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.” Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, Out of Egypt I called my son.

When Herod realized that he had been deceived by the magi, he became furious. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi. Then was fulfilled what had been said through Jeremiah the prophet:

“A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more.”

Again Joseph listened to the voice of God and saved the infant Jesus. But many children lost their lives for Christ. They are recognized as the first martyrs for Jesus. Listening to the voice of God can save your life also. Others are dying for what you may be denying.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of those willing to give their lives for you. May I have their strength and courage to acknowledge you, no matter the cost. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Our soul has been rescued like a bird from the fowler’s snare.

Each year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom. After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his other kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.

Are you looking for Jesus? Are you searching in all the wrong places? He is there, within you, waiting for you to find Him. Go to His word and hear what He has to say. Listen to the truth of what He says. You will advance in wisdom, age and favor before God and man.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you being there when I searched for you. You have saved my life and my soul. In Jesus’ holy name I give you praise, Amen!

Blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways.

Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people. Certain members of the so-called Synagogue of Freedmen, Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and people from Cilicia and Asia, came forward and debated with Stephen, but they could not withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he spoke.

When they heard this, they were infuriated, and they ground their teeth at him. But he, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked up intently to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears, and rushed upon him together.

They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him. The witnesses laid down their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul. As they were stoning Stephen, he called out “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

Stephen had the faith and the conviction to speak the truth. They knew it was the truth but did not want to hear it. Do you hear the truth and listen or do you try and shut it out? Have the courage of Stephen, listen and speak the truth. The life of your soul depends on your answer. Be like Stephen and see Jesus.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the example of St. Stephen. May he always come to my mind when I waiver and wonder what is the truth. In Jesus’ holy name I ask for this grace, Amen.

Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him, but the world did not know him. He came to what was his own, but his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth. John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’” From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.

Today is born our Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord. He is the word, the word that has been revealed to the ages. There is nothing in this world more important than Him. Take heed and come to the Manger and see your Savior.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, your gift of your Son saved the world. Thank you for saving me from the world. In His holy and precious name, Amen.

All the ends of the earth have seen the saving power of God.
