Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. This I command you: love one another.”
When you follow Christ you are not a slave. You become a son or daughter of the King, loved and cherished. He chose us and appointed us in love. All He asks is that we love Him and in turn others as He loves us. How do you love? With the freedom of a son or daughter or with the chains of a slave? It is your choice.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the love that you give to me. I love you and the freedom that comes with that love. May I always share your love and freedom with others so that they may know you. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
I will give you thanks among the peoples, O Lord, Alleluia!
