Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

Paul tells us that this was handed over to him directly from our Lord. He did not make it up, he did not create it. It came down to us directly from our Lord. On this Holy Thursday we celebrate this beautiful gift from Jesus. He meant what He said when He gave it to the Apostles and later passed on to Paul when He taught him. He created a covenant of love with us, if we do this and believe. We must believe that the bread and wine truly and completely become His body and blood. Why would you doubt it? Why do you not believe it?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, the gift of your Son has been a blessing for me. May I always take His body and blood in a worthy manner and without sin. I believe Lord, and pray that all who do not open their hearts and minds to your truth, in Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

Our blessing-cup is a communion with the Blood of Christ.
