Jesus said to his disciples: “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers and sisters only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
In this day our enemies may not be so easy to detect. When there is a disagreement with others, there has become a saddening trend to demonize those on the other side. Instead of praying for those whom we do not get along with, we complain, argue and criticize. Loving our enemies is not easy, but we must do our best to remember that God loves everyone, and wants us to do the same. Try praying for those who disagree with you, they may not change but you surely will.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to love those I should love and respect those who disagree with me. In Jesus’ holy name I ask for guidance and help, Amen.
Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
