And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and the angels looked after him. After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from God saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.’
Jesus was driven to the desert by the Holy Spirit. He went there to prepare for what was to come. We need to go into the desert during these days of Lent to prepare our hearts and our minds for what is to come. We look forward to the Resurrection, but are we ready for it? What are you doing during this Lent to prepare yourself? Temptations are ever present in our life. Only by taking this time can you be ready as Jesus was to turn satan and his distractions away. Be ready, because they will come. But will you be prepared?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I need the strength of Jesus to turn avoid the temptations in our world. Help me prepare my heart and mind Lord to turn away from evil. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant.
