May the word of the Lord fill you with love and bring you peace.

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, “Follow me.” And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him. Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were at table with them. The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus said to them in reply, “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”

Do you think you have to be perfect for the Lord to love you? Jesus is showing us here that He will come to us NO MATTER what state our life is in. But He does expect us to leave the sin behind and follow Him. He says that the sick needed Him. Why because Reconciliation is not a onetime event. We will sin again and again and He will still be there waiting for us to come to Him. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is for those of us who are sick and in need of healing. Lent is the perfect time to come to the Healer who will save us from sin. Why are you waiting? I hear Him call me.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am so glad that you came for sinners like me. When I am in despair because of sin, I just have to remember to go to the gift you have given us in Reconciliation. Thank you for calling me, help me so that I may never say no. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen!

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.
