Jesus said to his disciples: “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?”
“…whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” In our world today this does not make any sense. With so much killing going on, this becomes a contradiction. But Jesus is saying that when we give our life for Him, we will never lose it. Why? Because we will gain eternal life with Him and that is what our end goal should be. The things we acquire in this world mean nothing compared to what He can give us. Who do you give your life to? This is a time of change, take advantage of it and use it to gain eternal life with our Lord.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, a home with you is what I desire. May I use this time of Lent to grow closer to you and change the things that are not of you. In Jesus’ holy name I pray, Amen.
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.
