Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick–no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
The Lord wanted His Apostles to take His message out to the world they knew. He did not want them to waste time if they were not well received, but to go on to the next town. How often have we felt that urgency to spread the word of the Lord? Are you willing to go out to the world and tell the Good News? Jesus calls all of us to evangelize and we need to feel that same urgency as they did. Are you ready?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to take your word out to the world. May I be willing to speak openly and often your truth. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
O God, we ponder your mercy within your temple.
