Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!” The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.” His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

Even the demons (unclean spirits) know who He is. How can our world deny His existence when the evil one knows who He is? Have you allowed the world to interfere with your belief in Christ? Why? Is He too loving, too caring? Did He cure too many people? Did He call too many sinners to repentance? Or is it His word does not allow you to do the things you want to do without consequences? The things that “make you feel good” and are against His teachings? He calls us all and He tells us that He will always be there with and for us. Why do you doubt? Why do you turn your back? Following His word is the true measure of what “makes you feel good”. He never fails you or disappoints the way the world does. Come home to His love.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I always deny the pull of the world. You called me out of darkness and saved me from the world and myself. May I never forget that the love and joy I now know far exceeds what the world called pleasure. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.

You have given your Son rule over the works of your hands.
