Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the Lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”
On this 1st Sunday of Advent we are called to be watchful, be alert because the Lord is coming. We do not know when but we know He is coming. If we are not watching we will be caught by surprise, we will have no time to prepare, so we must be alert for the day that He comes. Are you ready? Are you awake?
Prayer: Stir up your might, we beg you, O Lord, and come, so that we may escape through your protection and be saved by your help from the dangers that threaten us because of our sins. Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved
