After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal. The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”
It is what is one the inside that is important, not the outside. What we think and we feel will guide what we do, but sometimes what we see is hiding the truth. Evil knows how to mask itself as good. Look inside, do not depend on what you see. Find the truth by seeking what is inside.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to keep my eyes open to what happens around me. Allow me to see beneath the surface to the truth. In Jesus’ holy name, Amen.
Let your mercy come to me, O Lord.
