11-30-2013 Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle Gospel Mt 4:18-22

 St. Andrew the Apostle

 Link to today’s readings:

As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus is calling all of us to be Fishers of Men. Have you answered His call? Have you accepted His challenge? We are called, just as He called His Apostles. Do you have the faith they did? The faith to say yes to His call?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I always say yes to your call. You will not call me to something I cannot handle, so may I never fear the task you have for me. I want to be a Fisher of Men for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life.

11-29-2013 Gospel Lk 21:29-33

Jesus told his disciples a parable. “Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near; in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the Kingdom of God is near. Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

His words are eternal and they give us eternal life. If you feed on these words as you feed on the fig you will be filled with the word of the Lord. We do not know the time and place of the end of this world and the reign of the Kingdom of God, but will be sent signs and wonders from the Lord. Are you ready?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to be fed with the word of life that comes only from you. Help me to open my heart and mind to your words that I may have eternal life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Give glory and eternal praise to him!

11-28-2013 Thanksgiving Day Reading 2 1 Cor 1:3-9

Brothers and sisters: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I give thanks to my God always on your account for the grace of God bestowed on you in Christ Jesus, that in him you were enriched in every way, with all discourse and all knowledge, as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you, so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift as you wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you firm to the end, irreproachable on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, and by him you were called to fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Give thanks to the Lord for all the gifts He has given you. Give Him praise for what you have and always give the glory to the Lord. He sent His Son to free us and to allow us to be free in Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for all the gifts you have bestowed on me. I have a freedom in you that I have never had before I came home to you. Your love has saved me and I give you all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I will praise your name for ever, Lord.

11-27-2013 Gospel Lk 21:12-19

Link to today’s readings:

Jesus said to the crowd: “They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

Do you trust the Lord to give you the wisdom you need? Do you know the Lord well enough to know when He is prompting you and what you say does not come from you, but Him? Do not worry about what you need to do, just trust in the Lord. He will protect you and give you eternal life. Are you strong enough to trust? Do you believe in His words?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have the words I need to triumph over evil. Help me to always trust in your word and use the words you give me. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Give glory and eternal praise to him.

11-26-2013 Gospel Lk 21:5-11

Link to today’s readings:

While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, “All that you see here – the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

Then they asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?” He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’  Do not follow them!  When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.” Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”

Many today think that all that is happening means that the end of the world is coming, Jesus tells us here that no one knows when the end will come so why do we listen to these people? Why do we let them try to convince us that they know better than Jesus – that they can read the signs. We must prepare for the end of time, by getting our mind, heart and soul in order, in line with the teachings of Christ. And we cannot wait – because we do not know. Are you ready? I hope I am.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, whenever the end comes I pray that I am ready to be received by you, joyfully entering the Kingdom of Eternal Life with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Give glory and eternal praise to him.

11-25-2013 Gospel Lk 21:1-4

Link to today’s readings:

When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”

Christ wants your all. He does not want a part of your life, He wants you to give freely and completely all of you, to Him. He is not impressed with what you have, it is what you give that He cares about, and, how freely you do it. Have you given Him your life? Have you turned everything in your life over to Him? You must, it is all He wants.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I have given myself to you freely and without reservation. May I never try to take that gift back, and always live my life for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Glory and praise forever!

11-24-2013 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Gospel Lk 23:35-43

Christ the King

Link to today’s readings:

The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.” Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the King of the Jews.”

Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,

“Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Jesus did save Himself. Not in the way the rulers thought, but He did it in a way to save us also. The criminal recognizes Him. Do you? Do you see that His sacrifice saved your life? Have you accepted Him and believe in Him? He believed in you, He gave His life for you. What have you done for Him? What have I?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son. His sacrifice saved me from the world. May I never forget the love and joy that has filled my life since. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
