Brothers and sisters: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. The Scripture says,

No one who believes in him will be put to shame

There is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call upon him.

For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

But how can they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent?

As it is written,

How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news!

But not everyone has heeded the good news; for Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed what was heard from us? Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ. But I ask, did they not hear? Certainly they did; for

Their voice has gone forth to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

We are being called to evangelize. With all the resources we have at hand today, we must use them for the sake of the Lord. If we don’t do it, who will? If we don’t tell them, who will? We profess that Jesus is Lord with our mouth but are afraid to speak the truth to others. Am I brave enough to speak your truth? To go where you lead me? Are you?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you sent your Apostles to speak your truth throughout the world. Give your Apostles today the strength and courage of those twelve. Help us to go throughout the land speaking your truth with the same humility and courage. Holy Spirit, fill us with the zeal to tell God’s truth. In Jesus name we pray, Amen

The judgments of the Lord are true, and all of them are just

11-29-2012 Reading 1 Rv 18:1-2, 21-23; 19:1-3, 9a

I, John, saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth became illumined by his splendor. He cried out in a mighty voice:

“Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great. She has become a haunt for demons. She is a cage for every unclean spirit, a cage for every unclean bird, a cage for every unclean and disgusting beast.”

A mighty angel picked up a stone like a huge millstone and threw it into the sea and said:

“With such force will Babylon the great city be thrown down, and will never be found again. No melodies of harpists and musicians, flutists and trumpeters, will ever be heard in you again. No craftsmen in any trade will ever be found in you again. No sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again. No light from a lamp will ever be seen in you again. No voices of bride and groom will ever be heard in you again. Because your merchants were the great ones of the world, all nations were led astray by your magic potion.”

After this I heard what sounded like the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying:

“Alleluia! Salvation, glory, and might belong to our God, for true and just are his judgments. He has condemned the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her harlotry. He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

They said a second time:

“Alleluia! Smoke will rise from her forever and ever.”

Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who have been called  to the wedding feast of the Lamb.”

As I read this I am reminded of all the things that are happening in our world now. Our country is being taken over by immorality and turning from God. Many people are turning their backs on our Creator and creating the cages for all the unclean practices they can devise. Is this about us, Lord? Am I among the Blessed who was called to the wedding feast? I come to your table with a humble and contrite heart Lord. Am I blessed? How can I help others? What do I need to do?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, before your wrath is made evident on this earth, may we be given the chance to make it right? Holy Spirit, show us what we need to do to turn God’s wrath from us. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

Blessed are they who are called to the wedding feast of the Lamb.

Jesus said to the crowd: “They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

A warning of our near future? You will give us the courage we need to stand firm in your word, all we must do is have faith and trust in you. Do I have the courage to face what may come? Do I have the faith that will be necessary? Have I armed myself with your word and the power of the Holy Spirit? How will I know?

Prayer, Heavenly Father, I ask for the trust that will be necessary to stand firm in your word. Holy Spirit, fill me with the grace of courage to withstand whatever comes my way because of my faith in Jesus. Help me to be armed as I need to be to fight for your truth. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

Great and wonderful are all your works, Lord, mighty God!

While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, “All that you see here? the days will come when there will not be left a stone pon another stone that will not be thrown down.”

Then they asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?” He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them! When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.” Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”

Some say these signs are happening now. Are they? I know we do not know the time and place, only the Father knows, but today we have many false prophets, trying to change Your Word. They are trying to turn us from you but so many do not see it. Is this the time? Will I be able to see the mighty signs and sights from the sky? Will I stay strong in your word?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me in this year of Faith to stand firm in your teachings, to spread my faith in you, even when others don’t want to hear it. Help me Holy Spirit by filling me with the courage I need and the words needed to reach those who are deaf to Your Word. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!

The Lord comes to judge the earth

11-26-2012 Gospel Lk 21:1-4

When Jesus looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins. He said, “I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”

You want us to come to you in our poverty, not our riches. You want us to come to you with our needs. Do I? Do I give from my poverty or do I still need to give more?

Prayer: Heavenly Father may I always remember to come to you with my needs. Holy Spirit, fill me with the desire to bring everything I have to Our Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face

11-25-2012 The Solemnity of Christ the King Reading 1 Dn 7:13-14

As the visions during the night continued, I saw one like a Son of man coming, on the clouds of heaven; when he reached the Ancient One and was presented before him, the one like a Son of man received dominion, glory, and kingship; all peoples, nations, and languages serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed.

King of Kings, Lord of Lords, your coming was foretold for centuries. How can people not believe in you? How can they deny the prophesies that talked of you down through the ages? Will you come on the clouds? Will I know when you are coming? What will happen to those who do not believe?

Prayer: You are my Lord and King, help me to always pay the homage that is due to you. Your reign is over all the world and I pray that those who deny you will see the truth of all you teach. Holy Spirit, nurture the seed that will help me to spread word that Jesus is Our Lord and King. Open the ears and heart of those who do not believe that they will take in the message of salvation. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

The LORD is king; he is robed in majesty

11-24-2012 Memorial of Saint Andrew Düng-Lac, Priest and Martyr, and his Companions, Martyrs Gospel Lk 20:27-40

Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called ‘Lord’ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” Some of the scribes said in reply, “Teacher, you have answered well.” And they no longer dared to ask him anything.

The marriage vow states “until death do us part”. Is this why? Once we have died we are no longer married in the mortal sense. When we die in God’s grace, we die again into eternal life. Moses asserted that God is not a God of the dead, but the living and that gives us the hope of eternal life. Will I attain eternal life? Will I be like an angel? Will I be one who rises?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the God of the living, the communion of saints is not just here, but is made up of all the people who have died and gone to heaven. Help me to be a member of that communion, not just here but in heaven. Holy Spirit, help me to attain the graces I need so I may rise again. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!
