9-30-2012 Gospel Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

 Link to today’s readings:

At that time, John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you, will surely not lose his reward.

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where ‘their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.'”

We can still do mighty deeds in your name Lord! So many do not believe it though. Why?  We are mocked for our beliefs in you and for the deeds we do in your name. We don’t cripple ourselves physically for our sins, but we do it to our minds and our souls. And we do it not to cut out our sin but to glorify in them. How can we be true to your calling? How can we allow our souls to be maimed and chance losing our reward?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to do mighty deeds in your name. Help me to believe it is possible, help me to believe it can be done by me. May I always treat your children as if they are you and keep them safe. Help me Lord, to keep from losing my reward – eternity with you. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart

9-29-2012 Reading 1 Feast of Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael, Archangels Rv 12:7-12ab

 Link to today’s readings:

War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his Anointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the Blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death. Therefore, rejoice, you heavens, and you who dwell in them.

Michael and his angels are still fighting for us Lord! Satan still tries to defeat your chosen but we are protected by the heavenly hosts. By the power of good over evil, by the power of strength over weakness. But is ONLY the strength that comes from you Oh Lord, that allows us to fight. Thank you for the Legions of Angels that you surround us with. Thank you for the protection they give us today.

Prayer: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke them we humbly pray and do though oh Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits that prowl around the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord

9-28-2012 Gospel Lk 9:18-22

 Link to today’s readings:

Once when Jesus was praying in solitude, and the disciples were with him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” They said in reply, “John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, ‘One of the ancient prophets has arisen.'” Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter said in reply, “The Christ of God.” He rebuked them and directed them not to tell this to anyone.

He said, “The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

We always get it wrong Lord, why? We want you to be anyone but who you really are. Why? Is it because if you are someone else we don’t have to follow you? If you are not the Christ then we don’t have to follow the rules. But Peter knew and he had the courage to name you. Do I have that kind of courage? Can I stand before others and name you? Do I understand what it meant for you to die for me?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to know your son. To never be ashamed of who he is and what he stands for. May I have the courage of Peter to stand and name you before others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

Blessed be the Lord, my Rock!

9-27-2012 Memorial of Saint Vincent de Paul, Priest Gospel Lk 9:7-9

Link to today’s readings:

Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.

They didn’t know who you were. We have the benefit of hindsight and history and we still can’t figure it out. Why? Are we so filled with the world that we are afraid to identify with you? Do I truly recognize you?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always see who you are and never let me be afraid to acknowledge it before the world. You are my strength and my refuge. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge

9-26-2012 Reading 1 Prv 30:5-9

Link to today’s readings:

Every word of God is tested; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Add nothing to his words, lest he reprove you, and you will be exposed as a deceiver.

Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die: Put falsehood and lying far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; provide me only with the food I need; Lest, being full, I deny you, saying, “Who is the LORD?” Or, being in want, I steal, and profane the name of my God.

Every word of God is pure and perfect. They are my refuge and my strength, they give me power when I am weak and they fill me with a zeal for the Lord. If I would just follow them! Why do we keep asking for more when all we need is you? Your word fills us with all that we need. Why are we greedy and proud?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that you will give me an over-abundance of your word and your graces and just enough of worldly things. Enough to sustain me so I do not complain about what I don’t have or become complacent because I have too much. In Jesus name I ask all this, Amen

Your word, O Lord, is a lamp for my feet.

9-25-2012 Gospel Lk 8:19-21

Link to today’s readings:

The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”

Your family is not made up of people related by blood. What binds us and holds us together is hearing your word and following it. Your mother, understood that, didn’t she? She said yes before you were conceived and continued to do it her whole life. She is our model of the true disciple. Have I done enough to be like her? How do I know?

Prayer: Mary, help me to be like you. To be a true disciple of your Son and follow the way He has marked out for us. Help me to say yes to all that He asks of me, without hesitation or second thoughts. Help me Mother Mary to come closer to your Son. In name I pray, Amen

Guide me, Lord, in the way of your commands

9-24-2012 Gospel Lk 8:16-18

  Link o today’s readings:

Jesus said to the crowd: “No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel or sets it under a bed; rather, he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light. For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible, and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away.”

When your light shines in us Lord, we must be certain that nothing conceals it! You see it all my Lord. There is nothing that can be hidden from you. Why do we think we can? Why do we think that what we do is not seen by you? Why do we try to fool ourselves? Why can’t we appreciate what we have? You are so generous with your gifts, mercy and graces.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to always allow your light to shine through me, to always be transparent to you Lord, in all I do. May I never try to hide in the darkness, I want all that you have to give to me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen

The just one shall live on your holy mountain, O Lord
